The parents of O'Grady have been Jim O'Grady who is a financial adviser and Jan O'Grady. Her family raised her by their parents in Wheaton within Illinois and graduated in 1981, with a degree from Wheaton-North High School. Prior to making the move into Los Angeles, she appeared in a variety of commercials. O'Grady started her career by modeling at Montgomery Ward and making commercials.
